This is a first. Someone coming in and asking if we do cashback, there is an ATM machine literally 5 or so minutes away.

I wonder if it is someone trying to use someone else's card through contactless. I haven't used cashback since contactless was a thing, I presume cashback still requires chip-and-PIN anyway.
